On the face is it this photo taken on 7th March 2009 by Tasty Oats shows nothing more than the fact that archaeological investigations are continuing, and other photos of a similar date show they are still excavating. But if you look closely at the full size image in the centre you'll see the item I have clipped and shown on the left. It's security lighting, I think, and not something I have seen before - and in quite a strange place. Is this new, does anybody know? It's also obvious that the upper arms of the valley are also now being scoured.

The finds are considerable. If you are interested in how much pottery has been found, take a look at this photo by Jim Traveller.

interesting...the camera looks like something out of a sci fi movie.

What is even more interesting is that there is a very straight slope, right where the 'lamp' is. It definitely looks manmade.

The question is now if that straight slope has been excavated, or is simply a part of a path to a tomb that existed above the surface before the dig, which might explain the 'lamp'.

After looking at it a second time, it looks like this 'lamp' is at the entrance of a tomb (see the straight sloping walls). We would have to know where the photo was taken and where it points at. Which tomb is it?

It might be just a lamp, but the design makes me think of some sort of intruder alarm.

Yes, agree with the slope being the entrance to a previously known tomb. If you follow the slope by the "lamp" from left to right (sloping downward) you can see the slope ending in a fairly flat, straighter wall. This is consistent with what we see in the tomb entrances in the VOK already. Which one though? Do idea!

PS i have been looking at all the smaller debris and cannot make out any hieroglyphs yet.... still, there's plenty of time!!

I'm guessing the SW arm but I;m not sure.

There's no sign of excavations so I don't think there is any chance they have found a new tomb in the area shown - but they are clearly looking. I don't see the lamp as marking anything. It looks to me like a security lamp with a motion detector - and it looks new. What is interesting to me is not the lamp itself but if they have increased security in the Valley recently the implication is that there may be something new to protect.

Kate why are all the workers lined up like that on the side of a hill looking transversely in the same direction?

It could be field-walking looking for surface pottery finds but I'm not sure

A few things I noticed in large view of photo. Three figures by cliffs in the top right area of photo who are looking in same direction as people with their backs facing the photographer, only the people up by the cliffs almost look like they are standing guard. Also, noticed a made made looking white object up above & to the right of the lamp & another black man made looking object further up the photo & to the left. Am very curious as to what is going on!!!
