Hawass about to interviewed on BBC Radio 4.
No confirmation of the finding of the Akhenaten statue. It seems it was a false alarm.
@Patrick, it was initially reported damaged, then could not be found and was reported stolen. If we are questioning that, you can bet Zahi is too. In his place I would want some questions answered.
His communications have evolved over the past 3 weeks. He knows they are under scrutiny and that intelligent people are asking "How?" and "Why?". He surely knows people will expect an explanation from him so I bet he has been asking tough questions to make sure it is explained to him by museum staff.
I could be wrong of course, but to me a delay in confirmation seems likely. There is also no problem with a delay in announcing recover. It doesn't put objects at risk. It's anything missing which needs to be publicised immediately there is doubt it is present.
Hi, Kate, The whole business - the lack of security, the manner of the break-in, the fact that the absence of such important pieces was not noticed for so long, the slow reappearance of the stolen items etc etc - is very weird. Given ZH's dubious reputation (I am referring to his professional modus operandi, not his peraonal life) one is sorely tempted to think the worst. And, to judge by his recent interviews, the pressure is getting to him.
