The statement has good news that 288 objects stolen from the magazine in Qantara have been returned.  What proportion of the stolen items this represents is unknown.

70 objects in the Cairo Egyptian Museum were dropped and suffered damage, including Tutankhamun riding a panther.  All can be repaired.  He makes the point that the museum was dark so the scofflaws couldn't see what they were doing.

He insists that all 28 museums and all the tombs at Saqqara are safe, despite previous reports.

I would remind everyone that Dr Hawass was promoted to Minister of Antiquities, a Cabinet post within Mubarak's appointed Government.
