That really is something else, considering the lack of (obvious) preservation on the surface.

So, rather than being a 1/2 season job, this is likely to be as extensive as the Mut Team's digs and all other major sites.

Well, that's great. I know only a small %age of factual information about AHotep III and indeed about his temple, but i am very interested in this dig site.

I have seen the Memnon statues in person though. They were breathtaking!

I remembered an article by Egyptian Art Historian, Earl L. Ertman, regarding the epicanthic fold, a piece of skin from the upper eyelid covering the inner edge of the eye, that is often sculpted into the images of the Amarnan Royal family. Interesting that he excludes representations of Ankhetaten but includes Tut and Amenhotep III. I think its the site itself that is so extensive styler possibly even surpassing Karnak itself. Who knows what other ststuary may be discovered. Amenhotep 3rds reign really was the height of ancient egyptian civilisation in my book, his building works, quality of workmanship and imagination copied and perhaps only ever surpassed by Rameses 2 in terms of the former and latter and by only Seti 1 in the quality of the Art itself.

I wonder what else could be found at this important site. I thought that excavations had been quite extensive, but this makes me think otherwise...

Amazing to dig something up as beautiful, colossal and preserved as this after thousands of years. It really is the dream to excavate in egypt!
